Cutest Prom Couple Ever!

19 Apr

When I read this story, I thought it was the cutest thing ever! Malcolm Pichon, a senior at Salmen High School in Louisiana, decided to take his mom to prom instead of his girlfriend because his mom never had a chance to go to prom and experience it.

At school, Malcolm was known as a big strong football player, but in reality Malcolm is a 6-foot, 3-inch, 300-pound softie.

The cutest part of the story is how his mom(who secretly really wanted to go) repeatedly tried to talk him out of it, telling him that he should take his girlfriend instead, but Malcolm didn’t take no for an answer. “I wasn’t going to go if I couldn’t bring her,” he said.

This was a great story and it brightened my day. 🙂

Tragedy at Notre Dame

19 Apr

Tragedy struck Notre Dame Wednesday, April 13th, when a Notre Dame student, Declan Sullivan, died after the tower from which he was filming football practice fell over. That day the weather channel recorded winds gusting to 51 mph at the time of the football practice. What was crazy about it was he tweeted just before practice saying: “Gusts of wind up to 60 mph. Well today will be fun at work. I guess I’ve lived long enough.”

When I heard this story I thought it was very sad and it pissed me off because how could they make that boy get up 50 feet above the ground when the wind is blowing outside like a hurricane! That is just horrible. I cannot believe they didn’t think it was that dangerous and still allowed him to keep filming.

That just shows you that college football will do anything to win because it brings in the most money to the college, and I guess money is all that matters.

The Fastest Marathon Ever Won’t Be Considered a World Record!

19 Apr

On Monday, April 18th, Kenya’s Geoffrey Mutai ran the fastest marathon ever. He finished with a whopping time of 2 hours, 3 minutes and 2 seconds. For those of you that don’t know what a good time is for a marathon, a marathon is 42.195 kilometers or 26.22 miles. That means they are running about 13 miles an hour for 2 hours! I couldn’t even imagine running that fast for ten minutes!
But get this, even though he beat the record by 57 seconds Mutai’s time isn’t being recognized as a world record. See the Boston marathon is run on a net downhill, making it ineligible for world records. Talk about a dream breaker. I am sure it still is an honor for Geoffrey Mutai to know he has run the fastest marathon ever.

Kobe Bryant’s Gay Slur

17 Apr

During a recent Los Angeles Lakers game on TNT, cameras caught Kobe Bryant calling a referee a gay slur. This slur is a word that is all too common in our society, and has no place in our daily life and especially not on the basketball court. He called the referee a f*ing fag.

After reviewing the slur, the league office decided to hand out a $100,000 fine to Bryant, but Bryant is appealing the fine because he thinks that saying that word and words like it is ok, as long as you are in the “heat of the game”. What the heck!? Are you serious Kobe? So basicallyy he is trying to tell us that when he is playing basketball he is allowed to do whatever the heck he wants! That is absurd.

I wasn’t really a fan of Kobe Bryant, but if I was I would definitely not be one now. In my opinion, he believes he is so much better than everyone, but until he can part seas he is just like you and me.

No More LimeWire….Finally

17 Apr

LimeWire, a free peer-to-peer file sharing client program, is finally shut down. After years of illegal downloads by millions of people, and profit loss the government on October 26, 2010, has finally grew some balls and stopped it all together thanks to Judge Kimba Wood. Yes, I was guilty of downloading illegal music on to my computer, and yes it was very easy and very CHEAP, but I also have my favorite bands who I love to contribute and make them money by buying their albums and merchandise. In a way it is very annoying to have to buy every song you want off of iTunes , but I like it now because now all the bands and singers that you all love are making money for the music we love to hear because it magically makes you feel much better.

Now that LimWire is gone, the government needs to shut down all the sites that have just took LimWires position. Examples are Frostwire, Bearshare, music frost, and music oasis.

Victoria Lindsay

17 Apr

In my Communications of Law and Ethics class we learned about a case that happened a couple of year ago in the town that I go to college in, Lakeland. Victoria Lindsay, a 16-year old cheerleader, was beaten by 6 other girls and 2 boys around her age. they thought it would be funny to make a video of the beating a post it on YouTube, but when the girls got caught the video became evidence. The sheriff leaked some of the video on the news to show people how crazy those girls were. Not all were convicted guilty though, some of them didn’t get all the deserved. The one girl filming and the 2 guys had their charges dropped because they didn’t actually hit Victoria. The girl was only filming and according to the boy, they were just keeping a lookout.

Victoria Lindsay will have to live her whole life with that terrible memory.

My Guest Blogger Part 2

17 Apr

My second guest blogger is Mallory Moore’s blog: Way to go NFL….

Can you imagine traveling thousands of miles to see your favorite team playing for the world championship and not get to sit in the seat you paid for? This is what happened to 400 fans at this year’s Superbowl. Fans are filing a lawsuit just two days after the game because they were not allowed to sit in their seats because they were not available to sit in. The suit is being filed against the Dallas Cowboys, NFL, and team owner Jerry Jones. The suit will cover about 1000 people. Only 400 were not able to have a seat at the game while the others were relocated.  The argument is that the Cowboys did not offer any compensation for those ticket holders.

The NFL has come up with two options for the fans. The first is a ticket to next year’s Superbowl and a cash payment of $2400 or tickets to any future Superbowl with round trip airfare and accommodations.

The NFL made a public apology the day after the Superbowl. Roger Goodell, the NFL Commissioner, made the announcement.

I think the options offered by the NFL are very fair. The compensation for the tickets is worth three times the value of what they paid and they get to go to another Superbowl.
